Mild Thursday with afternoon and evening rain chances

Temperatures will return to the low 60s Thursday afternoon ahead of rain showers

LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) – After a stretch of cooler temperatures, we’re seeing a bit of a warm-up across the region today. Afternoon highs will climb into the lower 60s, but rain chances will also increase as we move through the evening. A warm front lifting through the area late tonight into Friday morning will bring a chance for thunderstorms, with a few rumbles of thunder possible overnight.

Warmth Returns Ahead of the Weekend

Friday will be a noticeably warmer day as the warm front exits northward, allowing temperatures to surge into the mid-to-upper 70s. While an isolated shower or storm can’t be ruled out, much of the day will be dry with some breaks of sunshine. Saturday will continue the trend of warm temperatures, but another round of showers and a few storms could move in ahead of a more potent system approaching late Sunday.

Sunday Night Storm Threat

All of Kentucky is under a Slight Risk (15% or greater chance) for strong to severe thunderstorms late Sunday into Sunday night. This system has the potential to bring all forms of severe weather, including damaging winds, large hail, and even an isolated tornado risk. The greatest threat for our region looks to be later in the evening into the overnight hours, so it’s important to stay weather-aware.

This storm system will be associated with a strong cold front that will sweep through on Monday, ushering in a cooldown as we close out March and move into April. Expect temperatures to take a noticeable dip by Monday afternoon.

Make sure to stay tuned to the ABC 36 Storm Team for the latest updates as we track this developing storm threat for Sunday night!
