Mild Saturday gives way to cooler Sunday, milder weather ahead for Christmas week
Temperatures drop behind a dry cold front this weekend before rebounding with above-average warmth and occasional rain chances next week.
A Beautiful and Much Warmer Saturday
Today turned out to be a really pleasant day across the area, especially compared to where we were just 24 hours ago. Afternoon temperatures climbed into the upper 50s for most of us, with a few spots even reaching the low to mid 60s. That puts us close to 20 degrees warmer than yesterday. Sunshine played a big role in the warmup, making it feel even nicer outdoors.
Cooler Tonight as Clouds Increase
Tonight, temperatures will cool off fairly quickly behind a dry cold front moving through the region. Lows will fall back into the low 30s by Sunday morning. Clouds will increase overnight, but conditions will stay dry with no precipitation expected.
Sunday Brings Sunshine, But Cooler Temperatures
Sunday will feature plenty of sunshine again, but it won’t be nearly as warm as today. High pressure settling in behind the cold front will keep temperatures cooler, with highs only reaching the low 40s for much of the area. It will still be a nice-looking day, just one that feels more like late December.
Clouds Return Sunday Night Ahead of the Next System
By Sunday night, clouds will begin to increase once again as the next weather system starts to organize to our west. While most of the night will remain dry, this pattern change will set the stage for isolated rain chances as we move into the start of the new week.
Looking Ahead: A Mild Christmas Week Takes Shape
As we head into Christmas week, temperatures will steadily climb. Highs will return to the low 50s early in the week and continue warming into the low to mid 60s by Christmas Day. While there will be off-and-on chances for light rain Monday through midweek, none of these systems look particularly strong, and widespread washouts are not expected. Overall, it’s shaping up to be a much warmer-than-normal holiday week.
