Midway College working on changes to name, mission

MIDWAY, Ky. (AP) — Midway College President John P. Marsden says the private liberal arts institution is expanding its mission and changing its name.

Marsden told the Lexington Herald-Leader (http://bit.ly/1DUYp1S) on Tuesday that the school will be renamed Midway University as of July 1 to reflect its changing mission.

He says Midway’s mission now includes global education "because we intended to branch out and start looking at other countries" from which to draw students and to develop partnerships.

He says using the term "college" in other countries often causes confusion because it can mean prep schools, high schools or community colleges.

Along with the mission and name change, the school plans to redesign its website, refresh its logo and announce a new graduate program this summer.
