Mid-week rain chances increase ahead of refreshing feel to end the week

Meteorologist Dillon Gaudet has the latest in your full ABC 36 Storm Team forecast

LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) – Happy Tuesday! We are tracking rain and storm chances returning later this afternoon. Isolated-to-widely scattered showers and storms will be developing during the afternoon hours today. The best chance a rain will be from the mid-afternoon hours through the early evening, before dissipating overnight. Isolated heavy downpours will be possible that could cause localized flooding, mainly in low-lying and flood prone areas. Remember though, the heavier downpours will be isolated so not everyone will see that chance. It will be feeling muggy during the afternoon hours today as well, providing heat and moisture to fuel the rain and storm chance.

Muggy conditions and storm chances return on Wednesday. There will be a morning chance of rain and storms and a late day and evening chance will push through ahead of a cold front. This front will eventually be bringing us a shot of refreshing air late this week. But before that we will be tracking late day rain and storm chances into Wednesday night. Like Tuesday, there will be a localized flood threat in low-lying and flood prone areas where we see the heaviest downpours. A few stronger storms may be possible during the late afternoon and evening hours as well.

The aforementioned cold front passes on Thursday. Breezy-to-gusty winds and few showers/storms will be possible as the front passes during the daytime hours. Temperatures will remain near average on Thursday before we see the below average temperatures arriving on Friday. Afternoon highs on Friday will struggle to reach the mid-to-upper 70s and dewpoints will be much lower than the beginning of the week leading to a very comfortable feel. Northeast Kentucky may see a few showers both Friday and into Saturday, but most of the region will stay dry.
