Michigan murder suspect nabbed in Kentucky

CAMPBELLSBURG, Ky. (WTVQ) – Tracking a cell phone allowed Kentucky State Police and Michigan investigators to nab a Michigan murder suspect Tuesday afternoon along I-71 in Henry County.

According to the KSP, 40-year-old Robert Daniel Putnam, of Davison, Mich., is charged in Kentucky with DUI and being a fugitive from another state.

He is a suspect in Richfield Township Michigan in the death of 28-year-old Sidney Szewczyk, who was found dead in her home Tuesday afternoon.

According to a release, Michigan investigators called the KSP just before 1:30 Tuesday afternoon asking for help finding a blue Chevrolet pickup in the area of Campbellsburg on Interstate 71. Michigan authorities had tracked Putnam’s cell phone to the area, according the KSP release.

Just after 1:30 and within minutes of receiving the request  from Michigan,  KSP Post 5 troopers found the truck on the side of Interstate 71 southbound near the 35 mile marker in Henry County.

They arrested Putnam without incident, according to the KSP release.

He remains in the Oldham County Detention Center.
