Mexico: Alleged lookout nabbed in murder of Chiapas reporter
Authorities in southern Mexico say they have made an arrest in the shooting death of a journalist for the newspaper Heraldo de Chiapas.
Homicide prosecutor Luis Alberto Sanchez says the suspect is believed to have acted as a lookout outside the home of reporter Mario Gomez.
Sanchez said Monday that the man allegedly belonged to a local drug gang. He said authorities are searching for the gang’s leader, his right-hand man and the lieutenant’s wife on suspicion of ordering the shooting.
Gomez was slain Friday in the town of Yajalon. Surveillance camera video captured the moment when two people rode by his home on a motorcycle and the one in the rear fired at him.
Gomez had reported on political violence during the recent election.
