Messy start gives way to springlike warmth and more rain chances
Wintry mix possible this morning
Cloudy skies dominate the Bluegrass early this morning as precipitation moves in from the west. Temperatures start out in the lower to mid 30s, cold enough for some areas (especially along and north of the I-64 corridor) to see a brief mix of rain, sleet, freezing rain, and wet snow. A light coating to around an inch of slushy accumulation is possible in spots, mainly on grassy or elevated surfaces.
Road temperatures remain relatively warm, so widespread travel impacts are not expected. However, bridges and overpasses could become slick for a few hours during the morning commute. As temperatures rise above freezing by mid to late morning, any wintry precipitation will transition to plain rain.
A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until late morning for several counties along and N of I-64.
Rainy and cool through tonight
By late morning, wintry impacts end across central and eastern Kentucky, but clouds and periods of light to moderate rain linger through the afternoon. Highs remain cool, generally topping out in the upper 30s to low 40s across much of the Bluegrass, with milder readings farther south.
Showers continue off and on tonight as a frontal boundary lifts back north. Overnight lows stay mild, settling into the upper 30s and low 40s.
Warmer and wetter Tuesday
Tuesday turns noticeably warmer as southwest flow strengthens. Scattered to occasional showers are expected, with the best rain chances across northern portions of the Bluegrass. Rainfall totals will vary, but some locations could pick up a half inch or more by the end of the day. Despite clouds and rain, temperatures climb into the 60s, with a few warmer spots possible farther south.
Springlike pattern mid to late week
A springlike pattern sets up for the middle of the week. Wednesday brings very mild air, with highs rising into the 70s across the Bluegrass. A few passing showers may linger, and an isolated rumble of thunder cannot be ruled out, though widespread storms are not expected.
Looking ahead to late week and into the weekend, above-normal temperatures remain the main story. Highs may push toward the upper 70s, with periodic chances for showers as multiple weather systems move through. While the exact timing of rain remains uncertain, the overall pattern favors warm, humid air and an unsettled stretch heading deeper into March.
