Mercer County man crashes into field, escapes police on foot

MERCER COUNTY, Ky. (WTVQ)- A police dash camera caught a crash after a Mercer County man fled from Burgin’s police chief.

Chief Jim Caldwell also says before Trey Cocanougher crashed, he caused two assisting Harrodsburg Police cruisers to collide. The officers will be okay, according to Harrodsburg’s chief.

The video from Caldwell’s camera shows him pursuing Cocanougher after Caldwell says he was spotted driving on a suspended license. According to Caldwell, Cocanougher was recently busted for DUI and has a history of property crimes as well.

Caldwell says it was around midnight when he started pursuing Cocanougher. Fifteen miles later, the suspect crashed into a filed off Ison Road but not before causing the crash between the two Harrodsburg cruisers.

Burgin’s only police officer and chief says Cocanougher got away on foot and hasn’t been arrested yet but when he is, will be charged.
