Memorial Day ceremonies in Central KY

FRANKFORT, Ky. (WTVQ) – A number of Memorial Day ceremonies will be held across central Kentucky on Monday.

Starting at 11:00 a.m., there will be a ceremony at Camp Nelson National Cemetery in Jessamine Co.  Deputy Commissioner of Veterans Affairs for the Commonwealth of Kentucky, Heather French Henry will be the keynote speaker.  The ceremony will take place at the cemetery’s flag pole.  Overflow parking will be at Camp Nelson Heritage Park, and a shuttle will be provided to get visitors to the ceremony.  Folding chairs are suggested for attendees.  Camp Nelson National Cemetery is located at 6980 Danville Road.

Also at 11:00 a.m., there will be a ceremony at the Lexington Cemetery.  Veterans of the American Legion Man O’War Post No. 8 and its Ladies Auxiliary will conduct a patriotic memorial observance including presentation of The Colors, playing of “Taps,” and a ceremonial firing detail.  The Lexington Cemetery is located at 833 West Main Street.

National Memorial Services will be held at Mill Springs National Cemetery in Pulaski Co. at 11:00 a.m., commemorating those who have served across the nation and across the world.  Then, the 5th Annual Memorial Day Picnic will be held at the Mill Springs Battlefield Visitor Center.  For additional information, call (606) 626-4045 or visit www.millsprings.net .  The cemetery is located at 9044 KY 80 in Nancy.

Then, at 2:00 p.m. in Frankfort, there will be a ceremony at the Kentucky National Guard Memorial.  Soil from all 120 Kentucky counties will be represented at the site in recognition of the Kentucky National Guard being the state’s “hometown defense force.”  A 3-volley salute will be included in the event.  The Kentucky National Guard Memorial is located at 100 Minuteman Parkway, in the Boone National Guard Center.
