McCracken Pike in Woodford County closed after tanker crash

VERSAILLES, Ky. (WTVQ) – A section of McCracken Pike in Woodford County was closed Wednesday afternoon when a tanker truck, carrying 6,000 gallons of distilled spirits, overturned after being forced off the road by another vehicle, according to Woodford County Emergency Management.

Investigators say it happened around 2:00 p.m. on the narrow, state road. Officials say no one was hurt, but the crash created a potentially hazardous situation because the distilled spirits leaked, giving off a flammable vapor.

Officials say equipment was being brought in from Louisville to help off-load the remaining distilled spirits from the overturned tanker.

When the tanker went off the road, it went over an embankment and crashed near a creek, according to officials.

Traffic in that affected area was being detoured.

Officials say the road may not re-open until around 7:00 p.m.
