McConnell, Boxer agree to details of transportation bill

WASHINGTON (AP) — A spokesman for Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell says the details of a multi-year transportation bill have been worked out with Sen. Barbara Boxer of California, who’s been leading Democratic negotiations.

However, a Democratic aide said that while a deal is close, leaders haven’t yet approved a bill. The aide spoke on condition of anonymity because he wasn’t authorized to speak publicly.

Don Stewart, a spokesman for McConnell, confirmed that McConnell and Boxer have reached an understanding, providing no details until "there is a final package."

Money has been a key obstacle. Senate aides say the two sides have been able to come up with enough money to cover extending transportation programs for three years. The bill provides money to pay for highway and transit projects.
