McConnell, Bevin to rally voters in Louisville

FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) — Sen. Mitch McConnell is scheduled to appear at a rally with his former Republican rival Matt Bevin on Wednesday, less than a week before voters cast ballots in Kentucky’s closely watched Senate race.

McConnell easily defeated Bevin in the May 20 primary. But in a close race with Democrat Alison Lundergan Grimes, McConnell will need the more than 125,000 Republicans who voted for Bevin to vote for him.

A spokeswoman for Bevin said the Louisville businessman is unlikely to endorse McConnell by name, instead urging voters to vote Republican on Election Day. But McConnell and Bevin on stage rallying Republican voters close to the election could send a message of unity to potential Republican voters.
