McBrayer Elementary Student Wins Veterans Day Essay Contest, Donates Winnings

MOREHEAD, Ky. (WTVQ) – Noah Leon, a student at McBrayer Elementary, won an essay contest given to 3rd and 4th grade Morehead students, assigned to write about Veterans Day.

In a ceremony held Thursday, he was presented with $50.00 dollars and a flag honoring veterans, destined to fly over the capitol.

Instead of using his prize money for himself, however, Noah had a better idea.  He put his winnings toward the purchase of new ipads for his classroom.  Parents and student say the school badly needs new technology, and have held fundraisers to bring in 6 ipads to be used in class.

In a post on Facebook, Trisha Leon, Noah’s mother, says her son was “very big in that he chose to ‘pay it forward.’  I am so proud of Noah and what a big heart he has.”

At this point, the school has raised $125 dollars for the much-needed technological upgrades.
