Mayor names new Lexington fire chief

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – On Thursday, Mayor Jim Gray announced Kristin Chilton as Lexington’s next fire chief.

Chilton, who had been Assistant Chief, is a 23-year veteran of the force with a broad range of experience.

“This is an important day for our city,” Gray said. “Public safety is a top priority for our citizens, and for me. Kristin Chilton has the experience and the vision to lead our firefighters, continuing and building upon their tradition of excellence.”

Chilton said, “It is an honor to have this opportunity. I look forward to working with the mayor, the men and women of our department, and the community to find new ways to improve our services.”

Chilton will officially start work as Chief immediately, taking over from Interim Chief Harold Hoskins.  She is the first woman to fill the position in the city’s history.
