Man with ties to church in Lexington accused of rape
LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – A man, with ties to a church in Lexington, is accused of rape. A Lexington Police report says 39-year old Tony Sasnett is accused of having sex, five times, with a girl younger than 18. The report also quotes the girl as saying Sasnett asked her for nude photographs of herself. The arrest citation also says investigators found sexually explicit messages reportedly sent by Sasnett to the girl.
Court records noted that Sasnett was in a position of “special trust” with the reported victim. According to a published report in the Lexington Herald-Leader, the Website for Greater Faith Apostolic Church on Clays Mill Road, says Sasnett organizes home Bible studies for the church. The newspaper quoted police as saying Sasnett knew the girl, through the church.
The newspaper quoted Sasnett’s attorney as saying he and his client would vigorously dispute that Sasnett was in a position of trust with the reported victim. Sasnett pleaded not guilty to five counts of rape and one count of using a phone to solicit nude photos of a minor, during his arraignment in Fayette District Court on Friday.
He is due back in court February 23, 2016.
