Man wanted for check-writing scheme

JESSAMINE COUNTY, Ky. (WTVQ) – Jessamine County investigators are warning area bsuinesses to be on the look out for a man suspected of writing bad checks to buy equipment he can later sell for cash in an elaborate money laundering scheme.

According to the department’s Facebook page, William Steele has been writing fraudulent checks around the Commonwealth for the past several weeks totaling at least $30,000.

“He has committed these crimes in Jessamine, Bardstown, Lexington, Beattyville, and Winchester,” the department stated.

He has purchased several zero-turn lawn mowers and golf carts using fraudulent checks to sell them for cash.

“We want businesses in Jessamine and surrounding counties to be aware of this individual,” investigators said.
