Man shot in Lexington on same day anti-gun violence advocate dies

Lexington, Ky. (WTVQ)- On the same day a Lexington mother, who tirelessly spoke out against gun violence, died, a man was shot in the city on Charles Avenue and Oak Street.

Police say they got the call about the shooting just after 8 p.m.

According to officers, the man was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

A car nearby also had some bullet holes.

Earlier Monday and throughout the evening people shared memories of Anita Franklin, who died unexpectedly. Franklin had just recently called for a ceasefire in January in Lexington in honor of what would have been her son’s 27th birthday.

He was shot and killed in 2014. After his death, Franklin worked tirelessly to advocate against gun violence.

According to police, the man shot Monday night near Charles Avenue and Oak Street is not cooperating with investigators.

They say all they know so far is the suspect might have been someone wearing a hoodie.
