Man shot by state trooper faces attempted murder charge

EDDYVILLE, Ky. (WTVQ) – State Police say 51-year old John C. Smith of Eddyville has been charged with Attempted Murder of a Police Officer.

Investigators say Smith was shot by a state trooper May 9 after he reportedly pointed a handgun and laser device at troopers after they showed up at Smith’s home with a search warrant.

Smith was arrested and taken to the Marshall County Detention Center after he was released from the hospital on May 20, according to State Police. 

Investigators say Smith has been charged with three counts of Attempted Murder of a Police Officer, Wanton Endangerment, Possession of a Handgun by a Convicted Felon and Possession of a Defaced Firearm.
