Man seriously burned in when boat explodes

RUSSELL COUNTY, Ky. (WTVQ)-A man in his 60s was airlifted to the hospital Saturday afternoon with burn wounds after a fire started on his boat.

Fish and Wildlife investigators say the man and his wife were trying to launch the boat at Halcomb’s Landing on Lake Cumberland.

The man noticed some issues with the boat and went to look at the engine compartment while it was running.

Investigators say flames exploded from the compartment, burning the man.

Luckily, not seriously, but seriously enough for him to be airlifted to the hospital.

Sgt. Travis Neal with Fish and Wildlife says if you are going to the lake for the first time this year, make sure your boat is working properly before you get to the water and also make sure you’ve got all the proper safety equipment.
