Man killed in officer-involved shooting

SHEPHERDSVILLE, Ky. (WTVQ) – A 22-year-old Shepherdsville man was killed by state troopers early Wednesday when he refused to drop his weapon at the end of a standoff with state and local law enforcement.

According to a KSP news release, Tyler Blevens was pronounced dead at the scene by the Bullitt County Coroner’s Office shortly after 6 a.m. Wednesday.

Troopers say Shepherdsville Police called the KSP at about 10:45 p.m. Tuesday for help with a “barricaded subject” on Mandarin Court in Shepherdsville.

The preliminary investigation revealed Shepherdsville officers were trying to make contact with a subject wanted on several felony warrants including wanton endangerment of a police officer. As officers approached, the man barricade himself inside his home, according to the KSP.

That’s when local police called the KSP Special Response Team, which arrived at about 1:15 a.m. Wednesday. In Bullitt County, Shepherdsville straddles I-65 south of Louisville.

Negotiations continued until a little after 6 a.m., Blevens left the house with an firearm and tried to get into a vehicle. KSP troopers say they gave “repeated” verbal commands for Blevens to drop his weapon but he didn’t respond, according to the release.

Troopers fired, killing him.

KSP was assisted by the Shepherdsville Police Department, Bullitt County Sheriff’s Office, Bullitt County EMS and Bullitt County Coroner’s Office. The investigation is being led by KSPs Critical Incident Response Team.
