UPDATE: Lexington man charged with Laurel murder

LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. (WTVQ) – London Police have arrested a 42-year-old Lexington, Ky., man in connection with the death Wednesday evening of a man who had his throat slit in a city park.
Police say Edward D. Brewer is charged with murder in the death of 53-year-old James L. Mays.
On Wednesday, July 1 at 6:08 p.m., London Police were dispatched to the city’s Levi Jackson Park regarding a man found found near the park’s amphitheater, according to a police statement.
Lt. Jessie Williams led the initial death investigation and an autopsy was conducted by the State Medical Examiner’s Office in Frankfort, Ky. The medical examiner determined Mays’ death was a homicide.
Through his investigation, Williams linked Brewer to Mays’ death, according to the statement.
As of Friday afternoon, Brewer remains in the Laurel County Detention Center.

LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. (WTVQ)- The man found dead Wednesday in a London park died because he bled out from a slit neck, according to Laurel County coroner Doug Bowling.
Bowling says that was confirmed in an autopsy Thursday at the State Medical Examiner’s office in Frankfort.
The coroner also identified the 53-year-old as James Lowell Mays of Lexington.
London Police says it’s calling Mays’ death a death investigation right now.
Officers say dispatch called them to Levi Jackson Wilderness Road Park soon after 6 p.m. Wednesday to investigate. They say the body was found behind the park’s amphitheater near an overflow camping site.
Bowling says Mays was found around 5:30 p.m. at Levi Jackson Wilderness Road Park in London.
According to Bowling, it was just minutes between the time Bowling was found and the time his neck was slit.
The coroner says he suspects foul play, but London Police say there are other factors investigators have to look at before confirming that.

LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. (WTVQ)- A man was found dead Wednesday in a London park and investigators suspect foul play.
Laurel County Coroner Doug Bowling says around 5:30, a 53-year-old man was found dead at Levi Jackson Wilderness Road Park in London.
Bowling says the man was found right near the group camping area.
An autopsy is scheduled for Thursday at the State Medical Examiner’s office in Frankfort.
London Police are investigating.
