Man fires shots; may have had a medical issue

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – A man who may have been off his medication possibly faces several assault charges after firing a weapon several times in the area of the Thoroughbred Horse Center on Paris Pike Thursday morning.

Police received the call at about 9:20 a.m. of a dispute that ha turned into a man firing numerous shots. As police arrived at 3380 Paris Pike, the man, who was driving a white pickup, left the area onto Johnson Road, which runs along the east side of the Horse Center.

An officer gave chase and the truck crashed, striking a tree. When the officer pulled up and the man started getting out of his truck, he initially didn’t comply with the officer’s commands, which sent other officers racing toward the scene.

But the man did finally comply. He eventually was taken to a hospital for treatment. A weapon also was recovered.

No one was injured at the shooting scene and nothing apparently was damaged.

The man’s mother told police her son was bipolar and may not have been taking his medications.
