Man dies in unexplained rollover crash
HOPKINSVILLE, Ky. (WTVQ) – State Police say an elderly man from Florida died in a rollover crash on I-24 in Christian County.
Investigators say it happened around 3:11 p.m. on Friday, July 21, just west of the 73 mile marker.
State Police say the preliminary investigation shows that 75-year old John Mecum, of Sarasota, Florida, was driving his Chevrolet pickup truck westbound on I-24 when for some reason, the pickup rolled over into the median and came to rest upside down.
Investigators say Mecum died at the scene. He was not wearing a seat belt, according to KSP.
Two passengers survived the crash.
Investigators say 48-year old Jennifer Mercer, who wasn’t wearing a seat belt and 8-year old Carson Mecum, who was wearing a seat belt, were taken to Jeanie Stuart Hospital with minor injuries.
