Man dies in Breathitt County mining accident

SALDEE, Ky. (WTVQ) – The Kentucky State Police continue to look into the death of a West Virginia man in a mining accident Thursday in Breathitt County.

According to the KSP, 412-year-old Dale Cassell Jr., of Glen Morgan, W. Va., was killed when he lost control of the piece of equipment he was operating at a surface mine and it went over an embankment, ejecting him to the ground.

Breathitt County Coroner Hargis Epperson pronounced him dead at the scene.

Trooper Jeremy Moore is handling the investigation of the incident, which happened in the Saldee community off KY 1098 southeast of Jackson.

The initial investigation determined that 41 year old Dale Cassel JR, of Glen Morgan, WV was operating a piece of mining equipment when he lost control of the vehicle. The vehicle traveled over an embankment, ejecting Cassel. . Tpr. Jeremy Moore is leading this investigation.
