UPDATE: 17-year-old charged with murder in death of another teen

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – Lexington Police have charged a 17-year-old male with murder in the Sunday night shooting death of another 17 year old on Pemberton Lane.

The juvenile has been lodged at the Fayette Regional Juvenile Detention Center, police said in a statement.

He has been charged with murder, possession of a handgun by a minor, and receiving a stolen firearm.

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – The Fayette County Coroner’s Office identified Sunday night’s homicide victim as 17-year-old Berkley Parks. The coroner’s report says Parks died from multiple gunshot wounds.

According to Lexington Police data, Parks is the city’s 28th homicide victim of 2021.  The deadliest year on record in the city is 34 homicides, which was set last year.

Investigators say Parks was shot shortly after 9:00 p.m.

He was found by police at Pemberton Lane and Stolle Poole Court.

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – The shooting Sunday night in a Lexington neighborhood claimed a 17-year-old.

According to Lexington Police, at about 9:13 p.m., officers responded to Pemberton Lane and Stolle Poole Court for a report of shots fired. Upon arrival, officers found a 17-year-old victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

The victim’s name will be released by the Fayette County Coroner’s office pending notification of family.

Detectives continue to investigate this case.

ORIGINAL STORY POSTED 4 A.M. MONDAY, AUG. 23, 2021

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – One man is dead after an overnight shooting in Lexington.

According to police, officers responded to a report of shots fired around 9:15 p.m. on Pemberton Lane near Stoll Poole Court between East Sixth and East Seventh streets.

Police say when officers arrived, they found a man shot. The victim was transported to a hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

Police have not released details of suspects or what happened as they continue to investigate.

It’s the third fatal shooting within a few blocks in less than two weeks. People were killed on Aug. 13 and Aug. 14 in the 400 and 500 blocks of Ohio Street which is just two streets over from Pemberton. One of those shootings was in a home and the other was during an argument in the street, police have said.

With two fatal shootings during the weekend, Lexington now is at 28 homicides for the year, according to police statistics, which is approaching the record 34 set last year.
