Man convicted, sentenced to eight years for fatal September 2018 crash
FAYETTE COUNTY, Ky. (WTVQ) – A man originally indicted for murder in a fatal DUI crash almost three years ago was found guilty of a lesser charge Wednesday by a jury.
According to a report in the Lexington Herald-Leader, 36-year-old Dean Lee Carson Jr. was sentenced to a total of eight years — five for reckless homicide reduced from murder and three for drug possession — following the jury’s decision. He also got 30 days and a $500 fine for misdemeanor DUI.
Because he’s been in jail since not long after the accident, he is eligible for parole based on the time he’s already served, the newspaper reported.
He was convicted in connection with a Sept. 18, 2021 accident that killed 57-year-old John Rusnak. Carson was driving an SUV that struck Rusnak’s small car on New Circle Road at Woodhill Drive at a traffic signal. Rusnak died at the scene.
