Man charged with trying to take deputy’s gun
LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. (WTVQ) – A man wanted in Ohio faces a number of charges in Laurel County after deputies say he tried to take an officer’s gun during ascuffle while being arrested.
According to Laurel County Sheriff John Root, 38-year-old Jermain Jackson Diggs, of Cleveland, Ohio, was charged after deputy Justin Taylor responded to a call of an intoxicated man tryig to break into cars in the parking lot of a motel early Saturday morning on KY 770 about 10 miles south of London.
When deputies arrived they encountered Diggs. When they tried to arrest him, the scuffle ensued. He kicked an officer and tried to get another’s gun before being subdued, Root said.
Once arrested, he threatened to kill the officers and their families, the sheriff added.
Diggs is charged with public intoxication – controlled substances; resisting arrest; disorderly conduct – second-degree; menacing; assault third-degree – police officer is victim; attempting to disarm a peace officer; terroristic threatening – third-degree; fugitive from another state – Cuyahoga County, Ohio.
