Man Charged in Theft From School Storage Building

LONDON, Ky. (WTVQ) – A London man was arrested Thursday in connection to the theft of numerous items from a school storage building, according to the Laurel County Sheriff’s Office.

Investigators say the theft was reported December 5, 2016, at East Bernstadt Elementary School on School Street.

Deputies say leads led them to a home off Little Pittsburg Road where 33-year old Christopher Johnson was arrested and charged in the case. They say he also had a bench warrant out against him in Laurel County for failure to appear in court on charges of receiving stolen property under $500 and contempt of court.

Investigators say a number of stolen items were found at the home, including a zero turn lawnmower, softballs and bats.

Deputies say a stolen pitching machine was recovered at a local pawn shop, which cooperated with the investigation.

Investigators say a majority of the stolen were recovered.

Johnson was lodged in the Laurel County Detention Center.

The case is still under investigation.
