UPDATE: Barricade suspect charged with endangerment, menacing, other offenses
LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – A suspect is now in custody after a barricade situation at Red Roof Inn on Monday. According to police, officers were called to the Red Roof Inn on Wilhite Dr. just before four this afternoon after a report of a shot fired into the ceiling of a room.
Police say when they arrived, 40-year-old Anthony Harris was reportedly armed with a gun, and refused to come out. According to investigators, during the standoff a woman was inside the room with Harris and would not come out until he did.
Police say around 5:30 p.m., the woman left the room followed shortly by Harris. Investigators say he reportedly stayed in the hallway just outside the room door and officers tased him for allegedly not cooperating. Police say Harris was taken to the hospital after he was tased but his injuries are not life-threatening.
According to officers, a handgun was found inside his hotel room. Police say Harris is charged with wanton endangerment in the 1st degree, terroristic threatening in the 2nd degree, being a convicted felon in possession of a handgun, menacing, and criminal mischief in the 1st degree.
Officers say during the standoff, Red Roof Inn guests were told to stay in their rooms and the rooms next to Harris’s were cleared as a precautionary measure.
Harris has an arrest record dating back to at least 2015, according to Fayette County Detention Center records.
In this new case, he is charged with third-degree criminal mischief, felon in possession f a weapon, five counts of menacing, two counts of third-degree terroristic threatening and two counts of first-degree wanton endangerment.
