Man attempts to put out fire with snow
LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – Snow and chunks of ice are still left behind by the March snowstorm and that’s what firefighters say a man used to try to put out a grease fire. Crews were called to a fire in the 1400 block of Mount Rainier Drive.
Officials tell ABC 36 that the man was cooking in the kitchen and forgot to turn off the stove. Moments later a grease fire started. Crews were able to contain the fire to the kitchen before it spread to other parts of the home.
"One of the things to remember about grease is that you don’t ever want to put water on the grease fire," said Battalion Chief Jeff Nantz. "You want to try to cover it or smother it with flour. Most important thing you could do is get everybody out and call 911 and let us take care of it for you".
It is not clear if the occupants of the home will be able to stay there. Fire officials say they will be contacting the Red Cross to help the family.
