Man arrested less than hour after truck reported stolen

JOHNSON COUNTY, Ky. (WTVQ) – A 31-year-old Williamsport, Ky. man has been charged with stealing a truck Monday afternoon in Johnson County.

According to the Johnson County Sheriff’s Department Facebook page, Shawn Gayheart was caught less than an hour after the truck was reported stolen.

At about 5:40 p.m. Monday, Paintsville/Johnson County 911 received a call from Storm Creek Trailer Park in Staffordsville that a man had just stolen a 1997 Dodge Dakota pickup and left driving toward Paintsville on Highway 40, according to the post.

At about 6:15, the truck was located at the BP station on Highway 23 at Turner Branch Hill. Greyheart fled on foot and started fighting with deputies when he was caught, the sheriff said.

Once subdued, deputies found a needle and Greyheart said he’d been injecting crack cocaine all day, according to the Facebook post.

Deputies responding to this call was Deputies Bryan Childers, Jeff Castle, Jason Arms, and Michael Scott.
