Man arrested in connection with two gas station robberies

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – The Lexington Police Department is reporting the arrest of a man in connection to two robberies at Lexington gas stations that happened within hours of each other last week.

Officers say the first robbery happened shortly after 9:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 22, at the Thornton’s gas station on North Broadway.  Officers say employees and witnesses told them that a man came in the store, implied he had a firearm, and demanded money from the registers. The clerks complied and the suspect ran off with beer and cash.

Several hours later, at around 3:15 a.m., Wednesday, March 23, officers went to West New Circle Road, where a robbery had taken place at the Minit Mart/Shell station. Officers say the clerk there told them the suspect said he had a gun and demanded money. After taking cash from the register, the suspect took off on foot.

On Sunday, officers serving an unrelated warrant recognized 48-year-old Jesse R. Walker from surveillance footage obtained from the gas stations.  He was questioned, and then arrested on two counts of robbery, as well as an unrelated unauthorized use of a motor vehicle charge.

He was taken to the Fayette Co. Detention Center.
