Man arrested, charged with murder after shooting into a home

Adair County, Ky. (WTVQ) — Kentucky State Police are investigating a shooting that killed one person.

According to KSP, troopers received a call this morning from the Adair County 911 Center for assistance regarding a shooting at a residence.

The shooting occurred on Old Montpelier Road.

Investigators determined 57-year-old Joseph South was being evicted from the home he was renting from 86-year-old Earl Coffey.

South allegedly went to Mr. Coffey’s home and fired several rounds into the residence.

Mr. Coffey sustained fatal injuries from gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead.

Four other individuals were also in the residence at the time of the incident.

South was arrested and is charged with murder and four counts of wanton endangerment 1st degree.

South is currently lodged in the Adair County Jail.
