Man applying for deputy job arrested on felony charges

DETROIT (AP) – A man who applied for a job with a Michigan sheriff’s department has been arrested by the agency on a warrant from Kentucky.

The Wayne County sheriff’s office says 25-year-old John Wesley Rose, who applied for an officer position in September, was wanted on six felony sex abuse charges, including sodomy, rape and first-degree sexual abuse.

The warrant was issued in Madison County, Kentucky, in March but the charges weren’t entered into a national database. An officer with the Michigan sheriff’s department conducted a thorough background check on the man and discovered the charges.

The sheriff’s office says Rose was arrested after he was asked to come in to complete paperwork Tuesday. On Friday, he appeared before a judge and waived extradition to Kentucky.
