Man accused of trying to set church on fire

EDDYVILLE, Ky. (WTVQ) – A California man was arrested inside a church that investigators say he was trying to set on fire, according to State Police.

Investigators say 24-year old Julio Chevesgarcia, of Pinon Hills, California, broke the front door glass, took items from the church and was trying to set it on fire when he was caught by law enforcement authorities.

State Police say this happened Monday afternoon at Macedonia Church in Lyon County.

The suspect was lodged in the McCracken County Jail facing a number of charges, including attempted arson, DUI, burglary and assault on a police officer, according to KSP.
