Man accused of stealing money then going to buy lunch

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – An accused robber’s appetite helped land him in jail Friday.

Lexington Police say 55-year old Michael Cotton walked into a Speedway at the corner of Southland Drive and Regency Road shortly after 2:00 p.m., made motions toward the clerk with his hands in his pockets, implying he had a gun.  The employee handed over cash and Cotton ran out of the business.

Police officers arrived and quickly set up a perimeter while getting Cotton’s description and checking security camera video.

Investigators say they found him one block away, eating lunch at an Arby’s at the intersection of Southland Drive and Rambler Road.

He was arrested in the restaurant without incident.

Police say they recovered all the stolen money, minus what they say Cotton used to buy lunch.

He was taken to the Fayette County Detention Center.
