Man accused of killing pregnant girlfriend to keep his drug trafficking secret

CORBIN, Ky. (WTVQ) – A pregnant Corbin woman was shot because her boyfriend didn’t want her talking to authorities about his drug trafficking, according to a federal grand jury indictment.

Daniel Scott Nantz is accused of shooting 29-year-old Geri Johnson back in March, then dropping her off at Baptist Health Corbin Hospital.

Johnson, who was seven months pregnant, later died. Her baby was delivered but also died.

According to the Herald-Leader newspaper, during an indictment hearing on Wednesday, the grand jury charged Nantz in connection to Johnson’s killing, saying he did it to prevent her from talking to investigators and a judge about his illegal drug activities.

A grand jury also charged Nantz with kidnapping, possessing a gun in furtherance of a drug crime, and possessing a gun after being convicted of domestic violence.

Nantz could face the death penalty if convicted.
