Madison County Schools subpoenaed by KY Labor Cabinet

MADISON COUNTY, Ky. (WTVQ) – Madison County Schools has been added to the list of districts subpoenaed by the Kentucky Labor Cabinet over a teacher sickout.

Jefferson, Oldham and Bullitt counties have also received subpoenas from the cabinet.

Last month, the state education commissioner requested the names of teachers who used sick days to rally at the Capitol.

The sickouts forced some districts to shut down a few days while Kentucky’s legislature was in session this year, drawing criticism from Governor Matt Bevin’s administration.

Teachers protested at the Capitol as lawmakers considered proposals that would change who manages the teachers’ pension fund and indirectly support private schools with tax credits.

The bill died.
