Madison County: How Ready Are You For Chemical Accidents?

Residents in the Chemical Stockpile Emergency Preparedness Program of Clark, Estill, Garrard, Jackson, Jessamine, Laurel, Madison, Powell, and Rockcastle are encouraged to participate in an online survey to determine emergency readiness for a chemical accident.

Michael Bryant, Madison County Emergency Management, said BGAD and mustard agents are stored at the Bluegrass Army Depot in Madison County.

He said they are stored in enclosed igloos but if there were a fire, tornado or other natural disaster it could potentially create a problem.

He said it would be a problem in Fayette County as well.  Fayette County residents are not asked to take the survey because they have their own.

People in the CSEPP counties would need to take shelter, lock and duck tape their windows and doors and turn off their air conditioner and heating system for a few hours.

The survey is available until September 1.
