Woman accused of nearly hitting officer during getaway

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) — Police say they have arrested a woman for wanton endangerment, after she nearly hit an officer with her car while trying to escape an identity theft charge.

According to police, 21-year-old Kayla Hameister broke into a woman’s car back in March, and stole her purse, which allowed Hameister to also steal her identity.

Police say she took $1,400 from that woman’s bank account while posing as her.

When police caught up to Hameister on Wednesday, they say she sped off, nearly hitting an officer, then threw evidence out of her car while driving away.

She is charged with wanton endangerment, identity theft, and tampering with physical evidence.
