LPD: Suspect Tried Robbing Gas Station, Took Money from Cab Driver Instead

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – Lexington Police say a man is behind bars after attempting to rob the Euclid Avenue Speedway at gunpoint, and then hitting a cab driver with the firearm before taking his money.

Investigators say that 42-year-old Shannon Andrew Davis entered the Speedway at about 4:30 a.m., pulled a gun, and demanded money from the clerk.

According to officers, at one point, Davis tried to shoot the gun, but it didn’t fire.  Davis and the clerk then got into a fight, say police, before Davis ended up running into the parking lot.

Davis then got into a fight with a cab driver who was in the lot, hitting him with the gun, according to police.

Officers say Davis finally ran off with money he took from the cab driver.

Both the cab driver and the store clerk had minor injuries.

Davis was found a short time later by police.  They say he had the money, but had ditched the gun, however a K-9 unit was able to find it.

Davis has been charged with robbery and possession of a hand gun by a felon.
