LPD: shot fired near child during custody exchange

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – A father said he was just trying to bring his child back to her mother when someone shot at him.

According to court documents, the man met up with the child’s mother in a parking lot off Liberty Road back in May.

Documents said, as he was walking the 5-year-old toward the car the mother was in, 29-year-old William Johnson got out of the passenger seat and walked toward the victim, his daughter and another man who was with them.

The man told police Johnson pulled out a gun, pointed at them and started yelling at them then fired a shot into the air.

The child ran toward her mother and the victim said Johnson fired the gun again near the child.

The mother and child got into the car, along with Johnson and took off, according to documents.
