LPD: Shot fired during fight in Fayette Mall parking lot

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – Lexington Police say someone fired a shot during a fight in the Fayette Mall parking lot Monday night.

Investigators say two people got into argument that escalated into a fight and one person pulled out a gun and fired one shot.  Police say an off-duty corrections officer happened to be nearby, rushed in and secured the gun.

This happened near the mall’s main entrance on the Nicholasville Road side shortly after 7:00 p.m.

Police say apparently no one was hit by the bullet, but one of the men involved in the fight suffered a hand injury and was taken to the hospital for treatment.

According to the initial investigation, it appears a group of acquaintances met at the mall just before the fight started.  Police say evidence shows narcotics were involved.

Officers identified the people involved, talked to witnesses and continued to gather evidence.  Police say charges are pending at this time.  No names were immediately released.
