Police: Several gas station robberies overnight possibly linked

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – Police say they are investigating two robberies and an attempted robbery at gas stations in Lexington overnight.

Investigators say they were first called to the Thornton’s on Winchester Road when they say two men in dark-hooded sweatshirts robbed the store Tuesday at around 1:00 a.m.

ABC 36 News was told that one of the men had a handgun and demanded cash from the clerk.

According to police, a customer was in the store at the time and locked themselves in the bathroom until the suspects left.

Shortly after that robbery police say they received another call about an attempted robbery at the Speedway on Tates Creek and Malabu Drive.

Investigators say the suspects left that location empty-handed.

At around 3:45 a.m. police say they were called to the Speedway on Richmond Road about two suspects who walked out after taking money from the clerk.

An officer found two men in a vehicle fitting the suspect descriptions near the Speedway on Euclid Avenue.

According to police, as the officer attempted to make a traffic stop, the driver sped off in a dark Honda Civic.

Police say they can’t be certain the three incidents are connected, but that it is a possibility.

The search for the two men is ongoing.
