LPD: Man being evicted sets fire in apartment

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – A Lexington man is accused of setting a fire in his apartment and disabling a smoke alarm.

Court documents say 52-year-old Robert Shepherd placed a bag full of trash in his kitchen and set it on fire.

His apartment is located on Dinsmore Drive in a complex that has 42 units.

Documents say police discovered Shepherd removed the smoke detector from the wall and removed the battery.

The fire was confined to the apartment.

Documents say Shepherd was being evicted and that was likely the motive for setting the fire.
