Lexington firefighters made a disturbing discovery after responding to a car fire off Redd and Elkchester Road Sunday night.
Officials say shortly after fire crews put out that car fire they discovered a body in the backseat.
A neighbor living nearby told police he heard a commotion and walked down the road to see what it was.
He spotted a car parked on the side of the road that was on fire and called the fire department.
Investigators say it does not appear that there was a crash before the car caught fire.
Police are calling this a death investigation.
An autopsy is scheduled to determine the cause of death.
The coroner has not released the name of the victim.
The road was closed for several hours and is expected to be reopened Monday morning.
