LPD: Driver hits gas instead of brake, sends car into apartment
LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – A car plowed into another car Wednesday morning, sending it into an apartment’s bedroom, according to Lexington police.
Police say it happened around 5:45 a.m. in Parkway Condos parking lot on North Broadway, near Loudon Avenue.
Police say an elderly woman was doing a U-turn on N Broadway, when she hit the gas instead of the brake and struck a parked, unoccupied vehicle. That crash sent the parked vehicle into the building.
The man living in the apartment says he had just left his bedroom minutes before because he smelled coffee from his automatic coffee maker.
Alan Pruitt says he would not be here if he had not woken up to the coffee brewing.
He says he thought there was a small explosion outside of his complex, but quickly realized otherwise when he walked into his bedroom and saw the car in it.
His laptop, desktop and computer desk were destroyed in the crash.
He says since he had just moved in he didn’t have renter’s insurance, unfortunately.
But he’s counting his blessings this Wednesday.
Lexington police say there were no injuries and no charges are expected.
