LPD: Driver crashes with toddler unrestrained in back seat, DUI investigation underway

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – Lexington Police say alcohol may have been a factor in a single-car crash on Winchester Road Wednesday morning.

Investigators say a two-year-old boy was one of four people in the car when the driver crashed into a utility pole around 1 a.m.

Police say the little boy was not wearing a seat-belt or in a booster seat at the time of the crash.

They say the boy was not hurt, but was taken to the hospital as a precaution.

First responders say they had to use the jaws of life to cut open a door to free a female passenger from the car.

Two other female passengers had minor injuries, according to police.

Police say they are investigating the driver for DUI and more charges related to the child in the back seat may follow.
