LPD, DEA team up to combat heroin

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – The Lexington Police Department announced their partnership with the DEA in fighting heroin overdoses on Friday.

U.S. Attorney Kerry B. Harvey calls the partnership a game changer.

Lexington’s narcotics unit is now the  biggest it’s ever been, according to Lexington Police Chief Mark Barnard.  He says not only are all officers now carrying naloxone to reverse the effects of an opioid overdose, but they will also start giving treatment information to overdose survivors.

Authorities say the goal of this partnership is not just to save lives but change lives.
