Louisville man arrested after trying to arrange sex with a minor

FRANKFORT, Ky. (WTVQ) – Attorney General Andy Beshear and the Cyber Crimes Unit say a Lousville man has been arrested in Frankfort for seeking sex with a minor.

Anwar Gamal Mohamed, 33, of Louisville, has been charged with one count of prohibited use of an electronic communication system for the purpose of procuring a minor for a sex offense.

According to cyber investigators, Mohamed became the subject of an undercover investigation after he corresponded through email and text messaging with an undercover investigator posing as a minor. Mohamed requested the undercover persona engage in sex acts with him.

Mohamed traveled to Frankfort yesterday afternoon to meet the undercover persona where he was arrested by AG cyber investigators. During his arrest, Mohamed told investigators that he was a Canadian citizen on a work visa for his medical research job at the University of Louisville.

Mohamed is currently being held in the Franklin County Detention Center.
